Kerala Theatres See Slow Start for The Kerala Story 2
A day after the Kerala High Court cleared the release of The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond, cinema halls across the state reported sluggish ticket sales, though theatre owners remain optimistic that numbers will rise in the coming days.
In Thiruvananthapuram, online booking data showed minimal interest, with the PVR theatre at Lulu Mall recording just 68 reservations by 10 a.m. for its four scheduled shows.
Kochi presented a slightly better picture. Suresh, who runs the well-known Shenoy theatre, noted that bookings stood at around 50 percent for the day’s screenings. He added that demand was stronger for evening and late-night shows compared to morning slots.
“The final decision on how many shows we’ll continue to run will depend on the response we see after the first day,” Suresh explained. He also pointed out that the original Kerala Story film in 2023 had opened to a similarly slow start before picking up momentum.
