Adivi Sesh Credits Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man for Inspiring Dacoit’s Hindi-Telugu Strategy
In Mumbai, the team of Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha — including Mrunal Thakur, Adivi Sesh, Anurag Kashyap, and Zayn Marie Khan — unveiled the trailer of the film’s Hindi version. Unlike a dubbed release, the project has been shot simultaneously in both Hindi and Telugu. Speaking at the launch, Adivi Sesh shared why the team chose this path, recalling how Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man (2018), though rooted in a Tamil story, was set in Madhya Pradesh and resonated across languages.
At the trailer launch, Adivi Sesh highlighted how cultural nuances shaped the making of Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha. He explained that traditions differ across countries — for instance, funerals in the US are marked by black attire and quiet mourning, while in India, white clothing and loud expressions of grief are the norm. This sensitivity to culture inspired the team to adapt the song ‘Chichubuddi’ into ‘Touch Buddy’ for Hindi audiences, blending Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh’s rustic vibe with Jonita Gandhi’s urban touch.
Sesh went on to recall how Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man (2018) influenced his vision. Though based on a Tamil story, the film was set in Madhya Pradesh to connect with Hindi audiences. That made him wonder why authentic regional stories couldn’t be told directly in Hindi without shifting their roots. With Dacoit, he chose to set the narrative in the rugged Andhra Pradesh–Karnataka borderlands, but crafted it in a style that would feel natural to Hindi cinema.
He shared an anecdote from Gorakhpur, where audiences enthusiastically embraced the Hindi version of the song ‘Touch Buddy’. Many told him, “You’re speaking in our language, and that makes us feel connected.” For Sesh, this was proof that presenting stories authentically in both Telugu and Hindi could bridge audiences across regions, making him not just a star from another industry, but their own hero.
