Cyber Fraud Alert: OTP, SIM Swap and Deepfake calls can cause fraud! Follow these steps to secure your money

News: Cyber frauds continue to evolve at an unprecedented pace in the digital era, where fraudsters are not limiting their attacks to fake links and messages alone, but are targeting users throughOTP fraud, SIM swap, and deepfake voice calls made through Artificial Intelligence(AI) technology. Such incidents no longer rely on hacking but rather on user behavior and overconfidence.

If you get an OTP verification call, be careful!
These attackers posing as bank, courier, government officials, and customers may call you posing as anyone from customer care, Banks, Govt officials, to couriers to acquire your OTP. They rely on creating a fear-stricken situation where you might be threatened of immediate cancellation of your bank account or asked for OTP due to issues like unauthorized activity or verification which forces you to give your details without a second thought.

Note: No person will ask you for your OTP, even from bank or any other such services.

In case of sudden loss of SIM connectivity, check immediately!
In a SIM swap scam, fraudsters get a duplicate SIM of your mobile number issued using personal data and you are tricked into sharing your details with the caller, due to which incoming calls, messages and OTP are diverted to the fraudulent.

In the wake of such an incident, if you experience a sudden loss of network on your mobile, contact your telecom operator, take an instant notice and observe your bank statements carefully.

Stay alert of deepfake AI voice calls!
The fraudster can make a voice similar to your friends, relatives or a highly authoritative figure to ask you to perform certain payment urgently which might cost your money.

So even if it sounds like the call has come from a known person don't verify a voice. Rather you must try to connect to the person using their verified or old contact details.

These 5 methods can help you save your money and prevent cyber fraud:
• Never share your OTP, PIN, Bank password with any person.
• Refrain from clicking on any fake link or on the links received from unknown persons.
• Get Bank's and your company's contact details through their authentic website or from mobile apps.
• Always try enabling MFA services with your accounts wherever it is possible.
• Never initiate a transaction based on any mobile call, unless verified by another medium.

Note: It will just take one mistake of haste or panic to drain your bank account; stop and verify, then perform any transaction.
