Bihar & Jharkhand reach accord over Sone River Water
News : Bihar and Jharkhand have come to a memorandum of understanding regarding the share of Sone River water. An accord that marks a historic watersharing between the neighboring two states of the country. The use and sharing of river waters has always been crucial as it represents the most important requirement for any nation for purposes ranging from agriculture, drinking water to all sorts of economic development of a region.
With agreement and cooperative framework of states, the disputes concerning water sharing could be reduced to a minimum.
Such a particular agreement for the development of the areas dependent for their agriculture on the Sone River and its canal systems and better use for drinking water, irrigation in peak demand will certainly have a beneficial impact. With majority of the Indian states facing issues due to variation in rains and a resultant inadequacy in the use of available water, and monsoon being such a decisive factor as far as river levels and water in the reservoirs go, using the water sharing framework the same as for Sone River will perhaps encourage states to follow suits.
