Anurag Basu clears the air: Kartik Aaryan–Sreeleela film far from wrap, ‘majority shooting done’ claim is a myth

Anurag Basu has set the record straight on his upcoming musical romantic drama featuring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela. Contrary to circulating reports, the filmmaker confirmed that the project is still in its early production phase, dismissing claims that most of the shoot has already been completed.

In a recent conversation with Variety India, Anurag Basu clarified that his Kartik Aaryan–Sreeleela musical romantic drama is still in its early production phase, with only about 45 days of filming completed so far. He dismissed speculation that the majority of the shoot was already done, calling it a “myth.”

The project first drew attention when its promo was unveiled in February last year, originally eyeing a December 2025 release. However, delays have pushed the timeline, with current expectations pointing to a late 2026 or early 2027 arrival in theatres.

Basu also expressed his eagerness to move on to his long‑planned Kishore Kumar biopic once this film wraps, describing the legendary singer as a story he has carried within him for years.

Although early chatter linked the film to the Aashiqui franchise, creative and legal hurdles have steered it into a standalone project, which continues to generate strong buzz among audiences
